Hanafuda cards aren't a simple game of goldfish or war with regular playing cards, it's much more complex when first learning. A deck consist of 48 cards of 12 suits and each 4 cards are a suit. Each suit is represented by a month and by a flower listed below:January- Pine

Game play (Koi Koi):
"Koi Koi" is one of the games consisted in Hanafuda that uses a 8 hand, 8 field layout, learn all below:
First, you have 8 cards shown within your bottom row and 8 cards in the center. Then, when your turn comes, you can discard one so you can make it match up another one of the ones in the center, but if there is no match, it will remain in the center. The matched cards come to a location at your bottom right and you win when you get any kind of Yaku. By declaring "Koi Koi" you can keep going to attempt to get more Yaku and earn more points.
The Table of Yaku is the score system of the game that declares how much points you get for the certain type of match out of 13 different types of matches. The table is listed below:
Kasu(Plains) = 10 Plain cards, 1 point
Tanazu(Ribbons) = 5 Ribbons, 1 point
Tane(Animals) = 5 Animals, 1 point
Ino-Shika-Cho(Boar-Deer-Butterfly) = Animal cards of the Clover, Maple, and Peony, 5 point
Akatan(Red Poetry Ribbons) = All 3 Red Poetry ribbons, 6 points
Aotan(Blue Poetry Ribbons) = All 3 Blue Poetry ribbons, 6 points
Sanko(3 Brights) = 3 Bright cards NOT including the "Rain Man" card, 6 points
Ame-Shiko(Rain Man) = 4 Bright cards including the "Rain Man" card, 8 points
Shiko(4 Brights) = 4 Bright cards NOT including the "Rain Man" card, 10 points
Goko(5 Brights) = All 5 Bright cards, 15 points
Tsuki-Fuda(Monthly cards) = All 4 cards of 1 month displayed on the screen, 4 points
Oya-Ken(Dealer's Privilege) = If neither get Yaku, then the Dealer gets, 6 points
Bake-Fuda(Wild Card) = In the Chrysanthemum month, it can also be a plain card for a Kasu with 9 other plain cards
